1. Guarding the Post Marker
Inscription. The Guard House served as headquarters for the Officers of the Guard and the Sergeant of the Guard, and as quarters for soldiers assigned to guard detail. Guard duty could last a day, a week, or longer. Guards patrolled their post for 24-hour periods watching for fire, suspicious conduct, unauthorized trespassing, or “picking of flowers for the post gardens.” Soldiers under arrest and Alcatraz military prisoners were also detained in Guard House cells.

Regarding Guarding the Post. Angel Island State Park is accessed by ferry from Tiburon. Perimeter Road is a 5 mile, mostly paved, walking/bicycle path that goes around Angel Island. This marker is located at Fort McDowell Angel Island is only accessible by ferry from Tiberon or San Francisco.
