In memory of Erastus Mitchell Birch born – Jan. 19, 1801 – died- July 7, 1884 native of Dutchess County New York friend and neighbor of Horace Mann trustee treasurer and member of the executive committee board of trustees Antioch College ardent supporter of Horace Mann and generous contributor to Antioch College during its early years.

the Orton Memorial, about two miles away. Both columns were erected by Hugh Taylor Birch. One is east, and one is south of Camp Hugh Taylor Birch. Scouts regularly hike to both sites.
