En testimonio de agradecimiento al Señor Presidente Don Carlos Herrera
Quien por acuerdo del 17 de septiembre de 1922 donó a la facultad de
Ciencias naturales y farmacia este predio con la expresa condición siguiente:

“3ª que la mencionada facultad queda en la obligación de no
vender su propiedad, de construir un edificio apropiado a la
institución y el jardín botánico.”

Before hosting the Botanical Garden, this location was the site of the Practical School for Young Men ("Escuela Práctica para Varones") which was destroyed during the December, 1917 and January, 1918 earthquakes.

This additional marker gives thanks to the University of San Carlos officials that worked to found the Botanical Garden on December 27, 1922: Pastor Guerrero, Rector, Eduardo Saravia C., Dean, and Ulises Rojas, Director. This marker also mentions that it was placed on the 150th anniversary of the birth of Luis Pasteur.
