1. Lexington and Ohio Railroad Marker

Inscription. Site of the first railroad west of the Alleghenies. Built 1833-1834. Flat iron rails were pinned to quarried limestone blocks. The twenty-three mile run between Lexington & Frankfort required four hours.

Erected by Kentucky Department of Highways. (Marker Number 69.)
