Los cañones que se encuentran situados en este lugar forman parte de las 7 piezas que cooperaron a la defensa de este punto contra la invasión americana del 20 de agosto de 1847.
Durante la defensa, fue comandante de artillería, el jefe de la 1ª Brigada de Artilleros, Don Juan B. Arguelles y tuvo como oficiales subalternos al teniente Don José de la Cuesta y los subtenientes Don Luis Arzamendi, Don Manuel Estrada, Don Francisco Fernández y Don Mario Espinosa.
Sostuvieron la defensa del punto con gran denuedo los batallones “Independencia y Bravos” mas tarde fueron reforzados por el Batallon de “Tlapa” las compañías de “San Patricio” y otras fracciones de tropa pertenecientes a los batallones de Chilpancingo y Galeana.
Fueron hechos prisioneros el Gral. Rincón, jefe del punto y el Gral. Anaya que había fungido como su segundo; Ambos estuvieron a la altura de su deber portándose con un valor a toda prueba y demostrando un elevado patriotismo que sirvió de alto ejemplo a sus soldados.

in the defense of this point against the American invasion on August 20, 1847. During the defense, the artillery commander, the head of the 1st Artillery Brigade, Juan B. Arguelles had as junior officers Lieutenant José de la Cuesta and Sub-Lieutenants Luis Arzamendi, Manuel Estrada, Francisco Fernández and Mario Espinosa. They sustained the defense of this point with great boldness. The "Independencia and Bravos" Batallions were later reinforced by the "Tlapa" Batallion and the companies of "San Patricio" and other fractions of troops belonging to the Battalions of Chilpancingo and Galeana.
General Rincón, commander at this point, and General Anaya, who had acted as his deputy, were taken as prisoners. Both proved to be up to the challenge, behaving with bravery and demonstrating a high sense of patriotism that served as a shining example to their soldiers.
