These Versailles Oaks
Were planted in 1783 by
Pierre Denis De La Ronde
Born New Orleans, April 20, 1762
Died December 2, 1824
Here he also built a French Colonial residence

He was Lieut. at conquest of W. Florida.
Military Commandant St. Bernard, LA.
Member Cabildo City Council 1778-1803.
Senator, member State Constitutional
Convention from Parish of Orleans.
Colonel on General Jackson's staff.
Major General Louisiana Militia.
Under these oaks his men camped
December 23, 1814.

The Battle of New Orleans was won
near here, over the English by
General Andrew Jackson
On January 8, 1815.
