5. Basilica of the Sacred Heart of San Salvador additional marker
This additional marker on the street near the Basilica reads (English translation):The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was designed by the master architect Pascasio Gonzalez Erazo. It was constructed in a neogothic style in 1900, using printed tin from Belgium. The fine woodwork was also brought from Europe. It contains Italian stained glass of high quality. The floor tile was made and installed by the Italian firm Ferracuti. The interior includes beautiful neogothic chapels also made of printed tin and a wooden roof framework in an outstanding design. After the fire that burned the Metropolitan Cathedral in 1951, this temple was used at various times as the substitute Cathedral.
