The OH-6A Cayuse was designed as a military scout aircraft during the Vietnam War to meet the Army's need for an extremely maneuverable light observation helicopter. Nicknamed the "Loach" because of its LOH designation (light observation helicopter), the OH-6 was heavily relied upon in Southeast Asia. At peak production during the war, as many as 100 OH-6As were built per month. The Cayuse was used for command and control, observation, target acquisition and reconnaissance.

Weapon System: If armed with the M-27 system, the OH-6 would contain a port (left) side mounting M-134 six-barrel, 7.62mm minigun or a 40mm grenade launcher on the XM8 armament system. In addition, an M-60D, 7.62mm machine gun could be mounted in the rear door openings.
