Tiburon in Marin County, California — The American West (Pacific Coastal)
Northwestern Pacific Railroad
On January 8, 1907, the Northwestern Pacific Railroad was incorporated as a consolidation of seven railroads in northern California. Jointly owned by the Southern Pacific Railroad and the Atchinson Topeka & Santa Fe Railway, its southern terminals were at Tiburon and and Sausalito, where passengers and freight cars connected with ferryboats to San Francisco. By 1909, most passenger trains terminated at Sausalito while Tiburon became the main freight terminal and shop facility. Railroad activities continued at Tiburon until 1987, when the last train departed.
