1. 55th Fighter Group Marker
Inscription.
This plaque is dedicated to the pilots of the 55th Fighter Group 8th Air Force, who defended our nation in World War II. In 18 months of intensive combat in the European Theatre of Operations (ETO), the 55th FG destroyed 585 enemy aircraft in the air and on the ground. It had the highest strafing record in the 8th AF and received two Distinguished Unit Citations while having 181 MIA's. Those who gave their lives in combat are honored here today.
