This Is Kentucky's Floral Clock
It is planted with 13,000 Alternantera and Santolina foliage plants. The clock is one of the largest in the world and is similar to the famos clocks of Edinburgh, Scotland and weighs 200,000 pounds. The base is faced with native Kentucky field stone. The minute hand is 20-1/2 feet long and weighs 530 pounds. The hour hand is 15-1/2 feet long and weighs 420 pounds. The hands, of cast aluminum are finished in "Kentucky Blue."
Built in 1961, the clock was dedicated on May 4 by the Garden Club of Kentucky, Inc. Co-Sponsor of the clock with the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The pool in front of the clock is used by many visitors as a wishing well. Funds from the pool are used for charitable purposes, including the purchase of recreation equipment for children in the state child-care institutions.
