1. Wayne County Marker
Inscription. Wayne County was named after Major General Anthony Wayne whose daring in the Revolutionary War earned him the nickname “Mad Anthony”. The Green River flows through Waynesboro, and between Waynesboro and the Natchez Trace Parkway is Natural Bridge, where county court was held in the 19th century. At Pulpit Rock, David Crockett reportedly made his first political speech. Pulitzer Prize winner and best selling writer T.S. Stribling was born and buried in Clifton.
