Inscription. Loudon County commemorates Fort Loudon, named for the Earl of Loudon, commander in chief of British and American forces in the southern colonies during the French and Indian War. The Tennessee and Little Tennessee rivers divide the arable ground roughly into thirds. Centralized Loudon and Leonor City are historical centers of trade for the county’s agricultural produce. Lenoir City was founded by William Ballard Lenoir, operator of one of the first cotton mills in the South.
