Gerhard Badrian
Beuthen, 13 oktober 1905- Amsterdam, 30 juni 1944
Photographer Gerhard Badrian was a Jew who had fled from Germany. His lineage was useful in his resistance activities. Dressed in SS uniform, he was able to free prisoners and steal identity cards. After the arrest of resistance fighter Gerrit van der Veen, Badrian was in charge of the Personal Records Center (PBC), for which he was looking for a new central address. The helpful Jewish Betje Wery turned out to be collaborating with the German occupier. Badrian was lured to 26 Rubensstraat in Amsterdam, a possible new location for the PBC, and shot dead there. A memorial plaque has been placed near the house: 'Born as a German Jew, killed as a fighter for the Netherlands' freedom'. After the war Badrian was reburied in the memorial cemetery in Loenen.
