Excerpt (in translation): "The Neckartor was one of the five city gates of Tübingen's old city wall. It stood roughly where Mühlstraße, which was only completed in 1887, meets Neckargasse today. Along with the Hirschauer Gate, it was one of only two on the Neckar River, but in contrast to the Hirschauer Gate, it had the Neckar Bridge, which had been built of stone in the 15th century, in front of it and was therefore very heavily used as a gateway to the city. The gate was built around the middle of the 16th century. In 1791, the theology student Friedrich August Köhler noticed other dates, 1570 and 1571, in addition to the year 1539 visible on the archway. The gate tower stood roughly where the buildings at Neckargasse 18 (today "Calzedonia Mode") and 27 ("Telekom Shop") are today."
