Regarding William Delap / Gabriel Stickley. According to property records, Delap bought three lots in Abingdon on March 16, 1796. He paid $20 for lots 74 and 75, and 13 pounds for lot 22. Stickley was a blacksmith and wagon builder who had his shops behind the house, the 16th oldest in Abingdon. The brick terrace wall in the backyard was built by slaves, and the house still retains pieces of the original iron door hardware and locks. Stickley surrendered the house after he fell into debt. Noble McGinnis, a local merchant, owned the house for much of the 19th century.
