Bep Bakhuys
Football legend Bep Bakhuys made his debut in 1925 on the first team of the Hague national champion, HBS. In the thirties he was one of the most popular Dutch soccer players and made the famous falling header - diving for the ball during his first international match in 1934. In the total of 23 international matches that he played, he scored a whopping 28 times. Bakhuys was discredited because of an alleged payment by VVV-Venlo at a time when the Netherlands still had no professional football, although the federation and bobo's made money off of it. He quit, having been denounced by the KNVB, and then switched to professional football at the French club FC Metz. When football went professional in the Netherlands in 1954, Bakhuys already finished his sporting career.
