Willem Augustin (1923-2004)

journey; it was wartime, with a nighttime curfew, and pitch dark, too. This became one of the best anecdotes in the history of the Elfstedentocht. In 1997 he rode his last tour at the age of almost 74. There was no next one until his death in 2004. Two years earlier, as the oldest participant, he participated in the Eleven Cities Walking Tour.
