Platanus orientalis
This tree was planted in the walled garden of Montague House probably in the mid 18th century. At the end of the original garden was an elevated brick terrace from which the garden and the countryside beyond could be enjoyed. The remains of this terrace can still be seen in the Waitrose car park. Now owned by John Lewis Partnership, the tree is managed through their Property Department. It was included in a Tree Preservation Order by Wokingham Borough Council in 2005.
Erected 2008 by Wokingham District Veteran Tree Association.
