The Mk 84 is an American general-purpose bomb, the largest of the Mark 80 series of weapons. Entering service during the Vietnam War, it was nicknamed "Hammer" for its considerable power. The Mark 84 has a nominal weight of 2,000 lb, but its actual weight varies depending on its fin, fuze options, and retardation configuration. It is a streamlined steel casing filled with 945 lb of Tritonal high explosive.
This bomb has the MXU-651 Airfoil Group attached which is part of the Paveway II package that turns "Dumb" bombs into "Smart" bombs or Guided Bomb Units (GBU). When the entire Modification package is installed, the bomb would be re-named as GBU- 10. the GBU-10 consists of the Mk 84 bomb and the KMU-351 Modification Kit which is made up of the MAU-169 Computer Control Group (CCG) and the MXU-651 Airfoil Group.
