1. The Holy Shlah Marker
Inscription. Rabbi Yeshayahu Halevi Horwitz, the "Shlah", a rabbi and kabbalist, one of the greatest Ashkenazi (Western European) scholars, lived in the 15th century. He held religious positions in various Jewish communities across Europe, the main one being in Prague. In his later years he moved to the Land of Israel, residing in Jerusalem where he was appointed chief rabbi of the Ashkenazi community, but was soon forced to flee to Tiberias. In his most famous work, "Shnei Luchot Habrit," he collected and explained many laws and customs, new and old, guiding generations to come.

——————

It is proper for man to fear the Creator,
who shall be Blessed and Elevated,
and lower himself,
To remember his old age during his youth,
During his successful days to remember his lowly days,
During his joy remember his sighs,
During his marriage remember his shame,
During his good days remember his pain,
During his wealthy days remember his poverty,
During his glory days remember his misfortunes,
Submit to his sins,
And regret all his crimes and malice.

(Laws of Repentance, the Holy Shlah)
