Excerpt (in translation): The day of liberation itself, 8 May 1945, is marked. The place chosen to represent the outburst of joy in the days of peace is Karl Johans gate 45, more precisely where bookseller Nils S. Hauff had his bookshop with an entrance from Universitetsgaten. On the front door, Hauff posted his legendary little handwritten poster with the message "Closed due to pleasure". Sorrow had turned to joy.

2. Remembering May 8 and May 17 in the year 1945 (The Norwegian American, May 8, 2021).
Excerpt: May 8, 1945, known as V-E Day (Victory in Europe Day) is celebrated throughout Europe as the day the German Third Reich surrendered, ending World War II in Europe.

But the day holds a special significance in Norway. Most often referred to as frigjøringsdagen or “liberation day,” it is also the day that marked the end of German occupation of Norway, which began on April 9, 1940.
