Excerpt (in translation): The building was constructed in two stages, first the northern half in 1873, and then the southern in 1884. Capital was obtained through the subscription of shares among Athenĉum's and Norske Selskab's (“Norwegian Company”) members, and finally in 1871 land could be purchased. The club building represented a completely new development in the monumental architecture of Kristiania (the old name for Oslo) in that a building with an ideal purpose was given an economic foundation through the furnishing of commercial shops on the first floor. floor was reserved for the Norske Selskab as club premises. On the top floor there were apartments. Norske Selskab eventually took over the entire building, and from the early 2000s, the Storting (“Parliament”) has rented several floors for committee and consultation rooms.
