Tras el incendio del anterior mercado ubicado en este mismo solar, en 1876 se construyó el actual Mercado de Santo Domingo, según el proyecto del arquitecto José María Villanueva.

Following the fire that destroyed the previous market located on this site, the present Mercado de Santo Domingo was built in 1876 according to a design by the architect José María Villanueva.
