Inscription.
This tree has been extinct in the wild since 1803. It has been continued in cultivation not only because of its rarity but also for its attractive flowers and foliage. When fully grown, it will be 20' tall.

All Franklinias currently in existence come from the materials collected by Botanist John Bartrams in 1773. Franklinia belongs to the tea family. The Genus name honors Benjamin Franklin who was reportedly a good friend of the Bartrams.
