Excerpt (in translation): It was at Vrieselaan 70 that Jewish Elderly home was established. It was originally founded in 1837 as a home for the sick and elderly. It was located in various places in Rotterdam, such as on the Hoogstraat until about 1866, on the Houtlaan from 1866 to 1900, and it finally ended up on the Claes de Vrieselaan in 1900. It was located in a large building and also housed a synagogue.

After May 1940, when the synagogues on Botersloot and Boompjes were bombed, this synagogue was used for a while to make up for the loss of the other shuls. The retirement home had the same fate as the Jewish hospital and orphanage.

On February 26, 1943, the hospital, the associated retirement home and the Jewish orphanage on Mathenesserlaan were cleared out by the Dutch WA and the Security
