1. The North Saco Fire Station Marker
Inscription.
The North Saco Fire Station has served the people of Saco since 1958. This particular station was built in 1975 by the city of Saco, after Jesse Gay donated the land. The original station is located at the corner of Heath and Rocky Hill Roads across the street from this station. The need for a station in North Saco was brought about by the Great Fire of '47. After the Parsonage for the North Saco Church burned down, a handful of North Saco resident volunteered to build a new fire station. Frank Prior donated the land for the original station while Eugene Taylor moved an old gas station from Scarborough to serve as the garage. Later, a community meeting area was added to the building. Many of the men involved in the founding of the station later served as Fire Chief of the North Saco Fire Station. The citizens of Saco can thank Lou Carpenter, Francis Nason, Bob Bowley, Charlie Prior, Dicky Hjort, Ginger Libby, Bryce Morris, and Larry Meserve for their effort and dedication to build a station invaluable to Saco and it's residents.
