1. Brigadier General Don F. Pratt Marker
Inscription. Born in 1892 and commissioned in 1917, Don Forrester Pratt was a crucial source of wisdom and experience as the first Deputy Commander of the 101st Airborne Division, especially to young Regimental and Battalion Commanders. He was the highest ranking casualty on D-Day, 06 June 1944, when he suffered severe whiplash upon landing behind enemy lines at Normandy in a CG-4 Waco glider. Unlike the fictional story in the movie "Saving Private Ryan," Pratt did not insist on additional armor plating or otherwise endanger Soldiers. It is a great testament to his leadership and influence that the Division, upon reactivating at Fort Campbell, dedicated its new museum to him, well over a decade after his death.
