Doopsgezinden kiezen ook nu nog bewust voor een doop en een eigen geloofsbelijdenis op volwassen leeftijd.
Tussen 1530 en 1578 werden zij streng vervolgd. Tot 1796 slechts getolereerd. Hun kerken mochten vanaf de openbare weg niet zichtbaar zijn.
Deze kerk is in 1607 gesticht door Harmen Hendriksz van Warendorp. Het interieur is sober volgens doperse traditie. De kerk is bekend om zijn orgel uit 1777 en om zijn bijzondere akoestiek en wordt nog altijd gebruikt door de Verenigde Doopsgezinde Gemeente Amsterdam.

Mennonites still consciously choose baptism and their own confession of faith in adulthood.
They were severely persecuted between 1530 and 1578. Until 1796 they were only tolerated. Their churches were not allowed to be visible from public roads.
This church was founded in 1607 by Harmen Hendriksz from Warendorp. The interior is sober according to Anabaptism tradition. The church is known for its organ from 1777 and for its special acoustics and is still used by the United Mennonite Community of Amsterdam.
