Casa del escritor José Peón Contreras
La casa forma parte de una serie de residencias próximas que fueron todas habitadas por diferentes integrantes de la familia Peón. Entre todas ellas, según escribe el investigador Francisco de Montejo Baqueiro, que esta casa fue la mansión residencial de D. Simón Peón y Cano y su esposa Dña. Venancia Losa y Quijano y descendientes. Esta finca fue construida con los dos niveles que conserva hasta la fecha. En una de sus estancias vio la luz primera el egregio poeta y dramaturgo Dr D. José Peón y Contreras el 12 de enero de 1843. Peón Contreras, quien cultivó abundantemente los géneros literarios de la poesia a la novela y la dramaturgia, murió en la cudad de México en 1907.

Finalmente, en este mismo pórtico en las primeras dos décadas del siglo XX estuvo la librería “La Literaria” antiguo establecimiento de gran tradición, propiedad del español D. Francisco Fontboté

Péon y Contreras was born on January 12, 1843. Péon Contreras, who abundantly cultivated the literary genres of poetry novels and playwriting, died in Mexico City in 1907:

Finally, for the first two decades of the 20th century the bookstore “La Literaria” was installed in this same portal, as an establishment of great tradition, property of Spaniard Don Francisco Fontboté.
