A citizen memorial plaque is located below the historical marker and reads:

John Albert Tracy
January 1, 1965 - April 26, 2012
John, Clamper handle "Dick Tracy", was initiated into
Umpqua Joe Chapter #1859 of E Clampus Vitus
on April 25, 2009, when this monument was dedicated.
But in spirit, He was born a Clamper!
Inscription. One of the oldest Post Offices still standing in operation in what would have been the State of Jefferson if Japan had not attacked Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7th 1941. This Post Office was established in what was called Slate Creek. It was established as Slate Creek Post Office in May 1858, when a regular tri-weekly stage began running. The name was not officially changed to Wilderville Post Office until 1878.
