"Old" South Main Street Yields to Urban Renewal
Commercial block changes from necessities to niceities.

Nineteenth century commercial buildings that provided necessities like groceries, drugs, dry goods, and many services, lined South Main Street until the 1970s.
Under Urban Renewal, these structures were razed and the Village Landing was constructed, opening in 1978. The Fairport Public Library and a variety of businesses have occupied the Landing since.
Completed in 1987, Packett's Landing was constructed across the street from the Village Landing with financing from the Fairport Industrial Development Agency.
