1. Crockett County Jail Marker
Inscription. Built 1892, about a year after county's organization; contractor was Z.D. Gafford of San Angelo. Building stone was quarried to north of structure, on Meyers property. Tower may have been designed for hangings, but no gallows were ever installed. Though never filled to capacity, inmates have included the 1954 robbers of Ozona National Bank.

In sheriff's quarters, Ozona children about 1915 took piano lessons from sheriff's wife.

Location. 30° 42.686′ N, 101° 12.01′ W. Marker is in Ozona, Texas, in Crockett County. Marker can be reached from the intersection of Avenue D and Water Works Drive, on the right when traveling north. Touch for map. Marker is located next to the door of the building. The old jail building is located next to the fire station and behind the First Baptist Church, which partially blocks the view from the street.
