1. Amelung Glass Works Marker
Inscription. First glass manufactury in Maryland. Established by John Frederick Amelung of Bremen, Germany in 1784. George Washington wrote enthusiastically about it to Thomas Jefferson.
 
Erected by Maryland Historical Society.
 
Location. 39° 20.404′ N, 77° 22.312′ W. Marker is near Frederick, Maryland, in Frederick County. Marker is at the intersection of Park Mills Road and Urbana Pike (Maryland Route 355), on the right when traveling east on Park Mills Road. Touch for map.
