Inscription. Colonel Williams was born in Albany, GA in November 1918. He attended the University of Georgia where he received his BS in animal husbandry in 1940. He entered military service in 1941 as an aviation cadet and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant and received his wings in November 1941 at Brooks AFB, TX.

During WWII and the Korean Conflict he flew a total of 64 combat missions and 135 combat hours in the F-6 and F-86 aircraft.

After returning from Korea in June 1954, Col Williams was assigned to Headquarters Tactical Air Command, Langley AFB, VA, where he served as Chief, Fighter Division and later as Commander, 405th Fighter Bomber Wing.

In July 1958, Col Williams attended the Air War College at Maxwell AFB, AL. Upon graduation in July 1959, he assumed duty as Deputy Commander, 4th Tactical Fighter Wing, Seymour Johnson AFB, NC.

His next assignment was to Lindsey Air Station, Germany, in June 1961 with duty as Deputy Director of Operations and Training for Headquarters USAFE and later as the Director.

Upon returning to the US in July 1964, Col Williams was stationed at Norton AFB, CA. While at Norton he held positions as Deputy Chief Tactical Branch, Aeronautical Systems Division; Chief, Tactical Branch, Aeronautical Systems Division; and Chief, Aeronautical Systems Division.

In May 1967 he was reassigned to MBAFB as Commander of the 354th Tactical Fighter Wing until March 1968.

His decorations include the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Air Medal with 10 oak leaf clusters, and the Army and Air Force Commendation Medals.

Col Williams retired from the Air Force in 1970. He passed away on April 7, 2004.
