1. Gay’s Lion Farm Marker
Inscription.  In celebration of Gay’s Lion Farm. From its start on July 1, 1925, until it closed in December of 1942, the roar of hundreds of lions could be heard throughout the valley, into the hills and beyond.
 
Erected 2000 by City of El Monte.
 
Location. 34° 4.11′ N, 118° 1.678′ W. Marker is in El Monte, California, in Los Angeles County. Marker is at the intersection of Peck Road and Valley Boulevard, on the right when traveling north on Peck Road. Touch for map. 2. Gay’s Lion Farm Marker
attraction founded by Charles and Muriel Gay. The farm became one of the most popular tourist attractions in Southern California. At its high point, there were more than 200 adult lions living at the farm. In 1942, it was closed due to wartime meat shortages.
