Regarding Manuel Gutiérrez Nájera. Manuel Gutiérrez Nájera was born in Mexico City on December 22, 1859, and in his youth worked as a journalist and was elected to the Mexican Congress. As a writer, he was a precursor of the Latin American literary movement of modernism. Also a writer of short stories, his most famous collections were Cuentos frágiles ("Gossamer Stories") from 1883 and Cuentos de color de humo ("Smoke-colored Stories") in 1898. The founder of the newspaper Revista Azul, his verse, which was influenced by Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer, bridged the gap between romanticism and the contemporary movements of modernism and symbolism. He suffered from hemophilia and died at 35 in 1895.

2. Manuel Gutiérrez Nájera Marker

In this view towards the south along Calle República de Brasil, the marker is far to the left along the facade of the orange building, above a doorway. The dome of the Temple of Santo Domingo can be seen in the distance.
