FV603B Armoured Personnel Carrier, Mark 5
The Alvis FV603 Saracen was an armoured personnel carrier and part of the FV600 series of vehicles. It first appeared in 1952 and saw action during the Malayan Emergency (1948-1960).
It was later used in Northern Ireland (1968-1998), where its distinctive and menacing shape was often seen patrolling the streets. Saracens were sold to a number of other countries for military and policing purposes.
This particular Saracen started service in 1956 as a Mark 2. It ended service in 1986 as a Mark 5.bbn ( photo caption )
