The Ponce de Leon Hotel (Flagler College)
and the Hotel Alcazar (The Lightner Museum) in St. Augustine.

This bronze statue was installed to recognize his achievements in developing the State of Florida. Erected in 1959 by the National Railways Historical Society.

Marker is at the intersection of King Street (Business U.S. 1) and Granada Street, on the left when traveling east on King Street. Marker is a large metal plaque, mounted at eye-level, on a red brick pillar just outside the Flagler College main front entrance, and a few feet from the subject Henry M. Flagler statue and monument. Flagler believed that Florida had the potential to attract large numbers of tourists, and in 1885 and began construction of the 540-room Hotel Ponce de Leon. Realizing the importance of a transportation system to support his hotel ventures, Flagler purchased the Jacksonville, St. Augustine & Halifax Railroad, the first railroad in what would eventually become the Florida East Coast Railway system.
