Newcastle upon Tyne in Tyne and Wear, England, United Kingdom — Northwestern Europe (the British Isles)
Pons Aelius
Pons Aelius
A cold winter's evening, just before dusk, 386AD.
The First Cohort of Cornovii are stationed at Pons Aelius. As auxiliary soldiers they protect the only river crossing for miles around.
A handful of soldiers await orders from their officer who stands halfway up Via Praetoria dressed in white woolens, whilst their Mastiff guard-dog looks toward the north gate expecting their patrol of the frontier beyond.
Other soldiers sleep in the barracks on the right whilst the Principia (Headquarters) is guarded by a sentry.
