Banker and financier who in 1881 organized the Canadian Pacific Railway Company & became its first president. Instrumental in completing the transcontinental railway in 1885 he later devoted his efforts to the expansion of the original enterprise now into its 2nd century of world-wide operations.
Born in Dufftown, Banffshire 5 June 1829.
Died at Brocket Hall, Hertfordshire, 29 November 1921.
