1. Winans-Crippen House- 1871 Marker
Inscription. On this site stood the Winans-Crippen House. Prominent local architect J. D. Stevens, who also designed the. United States Hotel and the Grand Central Hotel on Broadway, designed the freestanding wood-framed townhouse in the Second Empire style in 1871 for David Winans, a local merchant. It was subsequently owned by George Crippen, owner of a local dry goods business and later a women's dress manufacturer, Crippen & Reid. The building was a "contributing building” of the Franklin Square/West Side Historic District listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was lost in November 2013. The graphic is from an advertisement in Saratoga County Business Directory of 1873-74
