Inscription.  Founding site of Allegheny College June 20, 1815 and of a Society for the encouragement of manufacturers and arts Feb. 12, 1807 now the third oldest chamber of commerce in the nation.
 
Erected 1976 by Meadville Area Bicentennial Committee.
 
Location. 41° 38.304′ N, 80° 9.04′ W. Marker is in Meadville, Pennsylvania, in Crawford County. Marker is on Diamond Park Square north of West Cherry Street, on the right when traveling south.
