Port actif à l'époque du bateau à vapeur. Appelé d'après le nom de la famille Barré. En 1765 Charles Barré acheta 8800 arpents de terre à Jacques Guillaume Courtableau, le premier Commandant du Poste des Opelousas. C'est ici que le Bayou Courtable au donne naissance au Bayou Teche
