Inscription. William Whiteside built Whiteside station as a fort to protect his family, pioneers and travelers from Indian raids, along the Kaskaskia-Cahokia trail.

Whiteside was a patriot of North Carolina during the American Revolutionary War and is buried at Whiteside Station.
