1. Prospect School Marker
Inscription. A hexagonal fieldstone structure built ca. 1850 by local stone mason Joshua W. Stevens, the Prospect School served grades one through eight until 1930. Polygonal buildings - more typically octagons - were promoted in the mid 19th century for their economical construction, thermal efficiency, and natural light. The Prospect School is a rare example of the polygonal style adapted to school use in Maryland.
 
Erected 2012 by Maryland Historical Trust and Maryland State Highway Administration.
 
Location. 39° 35.849′ N, 76° 11.488′ W. Marker is near Havre de Grace, Maryland, in Harford County. Marker is on Darlington Road (Maryland Route 161) just north of Greenspring Road, on the right when traveling north. Touch for map.
