1. Greene Academy Marker
Inscription. Established in 1810 by Act of Legislature. Was aided by State grant of $2000 and public subscriptions. Until 1860, a leading academy west of the mountains. Old building, no longer used for a school, is northeast of here, on Market Street.
 
Erected 1953 by Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.
 
Location. 39° 53.84′ N, 79° 58.624′ W. Marker is in Carmichaels, Pennsylvania, in Greene County. Marker is at the intersection of North Eighty Eight Road (Pennsylvania Route 88) and Greene Street, on the right when traveling south on North Eighty Eight Road. Touch for map.
