1. The Roycroft Shops Marker
Inscription. Founded by Elbert Hubbard, writer, lecturer, philosopher, advertising innovator and author of "A Message to Garcia". The crafts movement employed skilled artisans who produced printing, bookbinding, modeling, text illumination, hand wrought metal and furniture sold worldwide.
 
Erected 1971 by Erie County Sesquicentennial Committee.
 
Marker series. This marker is included in the National Historic Landmarks marker series.
 
Location. 42° 46.076′ N, 78° 37.11′ W. Marker is in East Aurora, New York, in Erie County. Marker is on Main Street (U.S. 20A) 0.1 miles west of South Grove Street, on the right when traveling east. Touch for map. Marker is in this post office area: East Aurora NY 14052, United States of America.

This is the plaque on the stone in the preceding photo. It reads: Erected July 2 1916 to the memory of Elbert and Alice hubbard. Elbert Hubbard born June 19 1856, Bloomington Illinois. Alice Hubbard born June 7 1861, Wales Center, New York. Both were lost in the Irish Sea with the Lusitania May 7 1915. They lived and died fearlessly.
