1. West Virginia Institute of Technology Marker
Inscription. State institution established in 1895 as Preparatory Branch of West Virginia University. In 1931, name was changed to New River State College. Became a multipurpose college in 1941, known as West Virginia Institute of Technology.
 
Erected 1964 by West Virginia Historic Commission.
 
Location. 38° 10.823′ N, 81° 19.494′ W. Marker is in Montgomery, West Virginia, in Fayette County. Marker is on Fayette Pike West (West Virginia Route 61) 0.3 miles east of Jackson Street, on the right when traveling east. Touch for map. The marker is located at Maclin Residence Hall. The marker is painted in the colors of West Virginia University (Blue and Old Gold). One of the few state marker not in the standard aluminum and black.
 
Regarding West Virginia Institute of Technology. West Virginia Institute of Technology in 1996 became a regional campus of West Virginia University. And in 2007 it became of a division of WVU.
