Founded Lachine, 1667, rebuilt Fort Frontenac, 1675. Pioneer navigator on the Great Lakes. By his explorations he enabled France to extend its domain to the mouth of the Mississippi.
 
Erected 1937 by Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada.
